What they say:
- June 29, 2004, The Paragon Tattler
The Truth: I’m often chastised for criticizing the heroes of this city. It’s unpatriotic, they say. After all, these are the very men and women that prevented the Rikti from demolishing the world. So, here’s where the hypocrisy comes in: The Carnival of Shadows first emerged during the Rikti War, and helped us win, just like the costume clad charlatans I’m not supposed to insult. In fact, DeVore’s compatriots were a major force in the last stand with the Rikti. They joined Statesman on his Alpha Team, and now he turns his back on them? This is the perfect example of Statesman, Gonzales and company doing whatever it takes to stay in power. They don’t care whom they run over, regardless of if they’ve actually done anything worth getting angry over. How noble is it to pick on a group of talented women like these? Who is to say whether or not the Rikti War would’ve been won without their help. Perhaps Statesman should take a long, hard look at whom he has declared as enemies in this city. It’s fairly dishonorable for Statesman and newspapers like The Tattler to vilify a group of this caliber. Now, some of you might be sitting back and saying, “Wait a minute! Who’s the hypocrite here? He’s defending the very heroes he rails against!” There is a clear difference between DeVore’s Carnival of Shadows and Statesman’s Freedom Flunkies. First off, aside from one being perceived as battalions of justice and the other, a crooked cadre of clowns, their postwar actions are starkly different. While, as mentioned before, Statesman tries to retain power by policing the city, the Carnies are content with entertaining it. What’s that? A group that entertains!? My word, how evil, how despicable, how... unjustified? Of course, I’m sure you can guess to whom that last sentence is addressed. That’s right. The group that sucks out your souls is the Shakespeare or P. T. Barnum of our time. They throw parties, do plays, and just have fun. In a city that’s still recovering from one of the worst wars of our time, I think bringing laughter and revelry to our city is quite commendable. I suppose everyone is a critic, right Statesman? What, did they offend you by having a better dress sense? So, why go after a group like this? It’s simple really: A group that brings merriment and joy to this city can’t be tolerated by a fear monger. If people start to realize the city isn’t in as big of danger, Statesman will have to go back to what he does best - nothing. |
