What they say:
- passage from “The
Doctor’s” website
The Truth: Let’s
put things in perspective
here: Countess
Clarissa Crey, a woman with little business expertise, has turned her
husband’s small, pharmaceutical company into a booming
business. Is that really so unheard of? Neither
Walt Disney
nor Ray Kroc went to business school and look at the companies they
founded. Both Disney and McDonalds, like Crey Industries, are
worth billions of dollars today. If they could do it, why is
it
so inconceivable that Countess Crey could do the same? Why do
we
have to believe she had to resort to shady business practices to
achieve what she did? Perhaps some people are just born with
an
innate business acumen.
I also can’t help but mention just how much Crey Industries has done for the city. They are the single largest employer in the city. The Rikti War could’ve completely shattered our economy, but because of Countess Crey’s genius business management, Crey Industries was able to quickly recover and employ thousands of people. This was also in light of many of her factories being decimated in the now slanderously named, “Crey’s Folly.” If not for her proficiency, can we truly believe Paragon City would be in the condition it is today? Going back “Crey’s Folly,” let’s keep in mind that Crey Industries is not responsible for the destruction of Venice. Prior to the Rikti War, there was no indication that those factories were polluting or violating EPA standards. Blow up any factory and there is going to be a problem, let alone twenty to thirty in the same vicinity. “Crey’s Folly” is the most apparent example of the city’s bias against this company. Even the city has labeled it as such on the entrance to the area (which can only be accessed by heroes) rather than using its appropriate name. If they want to incriminate anyone for the destruction of the zone, it should be the Rikti invaders. The attempts to defame the company do not stop there, however. As mentioned in the “What they say” section, Crey Industries has been accused of many, many crimes. In fact, so many crimes, the adage, “Throw enough mud against the wall and some will stick.” The interesting thing here? Their constant mudslinging hasn’t stuck yet. You’d think if there were any truth to these accusations, Crey would’ve been charged with something by now. Of course, when you consider where these comical allegations originate, it becomes clear why. Most commonly, it’s been hackers like Mark Freeman, “The Doctor,” and even Freedom Phalanx’s Citadel that have been providing the “facts” that lead to the lawsuits and investigations. This list above is certainly not one I’d put any credence into. It’s two renowned hackers and one of Statesman’s comrades for coverups. “The Doctor” is one that has definitely displayed an unrelenting hatred of Crey. He or she regularly prints various nutty news that has yet to be proven. In the past, she’s even admitted to attacking Crey. Even crazier, is the fact that she claims to be Dr. Carole Freidman, a scientist who died after wandering into the sewers many months back. I don’t know about you, dear reader, but I’m going to go out on a limb and say she’s not really a ghost with internet access. Chances are she’s just one of Gonzales’ yes men doing his dirty work. Conceivably, it could even be Citadel himself. Realistically, why trust an admitted criminal, hacker, and one who defiles a poor grandmother’s name? And this is where we come to the Paragon Protectors. Again, why do we ultimately have to jump to the farfetched idea that these are part of Project Revenant - cloned dead heroes? Isn’t it more believable that Crey got their own force of super-powered defenders for security? It’s not like heroes for hire doesn’t already exist. Remember Hero Corps? But why wouldn’t Crey hire heroes for defense? I know if I had the whole city vociferously opposed to me, I’d look into security too (maybe soon, I will!), and a top-of-the-line one at that. It was just easier to make up some ridiculous rumor regarding Crey than to accept they needed a shield to protect their technology and, more importantly, their employees. |

| Who is truly responsible for the fallaciously named "Crey's Folly?" | ||||||||||||||
| Why? Crey
is just an easy and convenient target. A business that
prosperous
usually is. Notice Morgan Spurlock aimed his canon at
McDonald’s for
his documentary and not a smaller fry like Arby’s.
After Crey’s
factories were decimated in Venice, it must’ve become
extremely easy to
spread rumors. People were not happy about a few square miles
of the
city becoming so polluted they were essentially unhospitable.
Rather
than blame an enemy like the Rikti that were more or less out of the
spotlight, Crey was the scapegoat. Perhaps some of it also
had to do
with the fact that Crey is proving to be fairly impervious to the
various claims. They have yet to be charged with any crimes,
so
Statesman gets his target, but doesn’t think anyone is really
being
hurt. Maybe Statesman is just a sexist who doesn’t like the
idea of a
woman in power. Take a look at how many females are allowed
in his
super group versus the amount he relegates to his subservient
sidekicks. It could all just be that some people in power
invested in
a rival corporation like Lockhart Aerotech.
Of course, my defense all goes back to a point above. Which is easier to believe? Crey is a murderous organization producing evil hero clones, brainwashing operating systems, and illegal weaponry, or that Crey is a successful business that has drawn some ire for its profits. This is real life, not the comics. |
