The Truth: Much of what the above excerpt says is true. After the Rikti War, many people were left without residence. This was not just a problem in Paragon City, but on a national and global level. Much work was put into building housing and shelters as fast as possible, but it was never enough. Many citizens were forced to seek out other means of sanctuary, and it is true, for many, this involved going down into the sewers. Here’s where things become absurd. The so-called Lost are criminal masterminds? Look at any other crime rate among the poor in any other city in the world. The poor often have to resort to stealing to keep alive. While I’m not one to go filch another person’s property, when you’re eating out of garbage cans, temptation gets the best of you. If it was a choice between knocking over the local Mega Mart or starving to death, I’ll choose the former. Believe me, I’m not advocating criminal activity, but every person has their breaking point. As far as the mutations go, have you been down in the sewers? It’s not exactly the cleanest place. Spend enough time down in the place where all the city’s waste - biological, pollutants, etc. - is filtered and see if you emerge quite the same way. But should this be enough to cast them as villains? After all, mutants are far from unheard of in the city. The FBSA welcomes them. Is this a case of financial discrimination? If you’re not as wealthy as Justin Sinclair, you’re not welcome to traipse around in tights? Instead you’re the dregs of society and need to be arrested on sight? The sanity issue is just a low blow as far as I see it. Look at what these people have been through the past few years. The entire world was nearly destroyed. Many of these people lost everything they had, including many of their loved ones. People who were once highly successful businessmen and authors are now regarded as lowly as the trash they’re forced to eat. Not only that, but these people have seen the city they love turned from a prosperous city into a fascist police state. It isn’t just like it’s just the poor that are having trouble coping. Since 2002, the number of people seeking psychological help is up nearly 30%. Unfortunately, The Lost can’t afford this, so they just spiral out of control. They don’t need to be arrested and treated like criminals. They need help. |

| The Lost try to entertain themselves while living on the streets. | ||||||||||||||
| Why was the arena built before everyone had someplace to live? | ||||||||||||||
| Who would want to live here!? | ||||||||||||||
| Why? And that’s just
it. Rather than address a real problem in the city,
it’s much easier to conjure up fallacious fables.
Construction on new housing in the city has been halted.
Instead, our tax dollars are going to fund extravagant arenas as well
as universities that aren’t even staffed.
It’s a win-win for Gonzales and Statesman. They get to create
another boogeyman, allowing them to cover up the real issue, and giving
them the ability to continue their power hungry schemes. So
what if a few thousand people have to live impoverished lives as long
as Statesman gets to keep his crown?
